We are all members of the same tribe. Every life faces challenge and depends on kindness of strangers to get through. We are natural givers. Books such as NonZero by Robert Wright, Mind of the Market by Michael Shermer and The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins all discuss our genetic predisposition to give. Sometimes we focus on other human traits. Deep down we know the truth. We are givers. As Dawkins points out in The Selfish Gene, giving is the winning strategy. Long term givers gain and takers lose. Good beats evil.
For short periods it may seem like evil is tipping our human scales, but read Dawkins chapter summarizing results from iterated prisoner dilemma games and you see in data what we know to be true - giving, sharing and caring win the day. Modern lives are complicated and fast, but we are all members of the same tribe.
